TRAPO, BIMPO, EPAL, AHAS at BOPAL

Atty. Luke Espiritu on Frank Chavez

REMEMBERING FRANK CHAVEZ Atty. Luke Espiritu I suspect that underneath that veneer of a tough, uncompromising, even harsh, man, Frank Chavez is a person with a soft heart. While an exacting taskmaster, who minces no words to rebuke mediocrity, he carefully, almost maternally, cultivates talent. To anyone who underestimates my skills because of my diminutive size or my humble bearing (a misjudgment to which I am perpetually condemned), I can proudly retort: Frank Chavez believed in me. To this day that is the source of my confidence as a lawyer; a legacy from the legend, from the master of the craft that no one can take.  This dashing, fearsome image of an indestructible fighter, a scourge of corrupt politicians, judges and prosecutors; the one who confronted Dick Gordon at the Senate with a sharp barb, “I would rather be declared in contempt of the Senate than be declared in contempt of justice,” was human after all, not only in passing away but in life. This same warrio...

Ninoy Aquino on Christian Socialism

Imahe
Ninoy Aquino on Christian Socialism Wilshire Ebell Theater Los Angeles, California, USA 15 February 1981 What do I mean by Christian Socialism, very simply Christian Socialism means to me, an equal opportunity for advancement and the full development of the human being. This means that the poorest person in the land must be given the equal opportunity for education.  Not all men are created equal in their talents some are more brilliant than others. But we must give every citizen of the republic the equal right and equal opportunity to quality education, that’s number one.  Number two, the Christian socialist believes that the great legitimizer of government is the ballot not the bullet. And therefore because we believe in the ballot, we believe in a majority rule.  So that if the majority should opt or should win in a contest then the minority should accept the majority mandate. But we put a colatilla – that the majority even if it wins must r...

"The Cuban Missile Crisis was provoked by the Soviet construction of missile bases in Cuba but there were earlier actions by the US that helped create the nuclear conflict. In April 1962, the US deployed the Jupiter medium-range ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads in Italy and Turkey. Considering that the Cold War was characterized by conventional and nuclear arms races, the Soviet counter-missile measures in Cuba were a predictable response to the US missiles in Turkey." - from the article PROTESTS IN TURKEY AGAINST US-NATO MISSILE DEPLOYMENTS by Bruce G...
