Bago ang Cuban Missile Crisis, sa Italy at Turkey muna nagkaroon ng mga missile bases noong 1962, ngunit laging tampok sa US media, kahit sa Pilipinas, ang Cuban missile crisis at itinatago na nauna ang US kaysa Soviet sa paglalagay ng mga missile bases. Kumbaga'y kontra-missile ang ginawa ng Soviet sa Cuba dahil meron nang mga missile ang US sa Italy at Turkey na nakatutok sa USSR.
